Trustees Experience Information Literacy Instruction

On June 14, the Drake Board of Trustees participated in a mini-college where each member attended two classes. The goal was to let Board members know what the Drake classroom experience is like today. Assistant Professor Carrie Dunham-LaGree taught a course on 21st Century Research Strategies.

Trustee students experienced what it’s like to be a first-year student in a one-shot information literacy session. Each student was tasked with identifying a research topic based on a clip from the documentary Hot Coffee. Students then used SuperSearch to locate and identify one good source for their research topic. They then demonstrated for the entire class how they found their source and why it is good.

Unlike a typical one-shot session, mini-college ended with a lively discussion about the importance of information literacy across the Drake curriculum.
